This autumn MPs will be debating the Airport Commission report which recommended a third runway at Heathrow. The report hardly mentioned climate change and the government are not taking the threat of climate change seriously. A new runway at Heathrow would make it impossible for the UK to meet its legally binding greenhouse gas emissions targets as set out in the Climate Change Act 2008.
The South East Green Party will be holding an event to discuss, and make action plans, to stop all aviation expansion. Chaired by the Green Party's London Mayor candidate, Sian Berry, with Jonathan Essex (South East Green Party chair) and John Stewart, Hacan.
Speakers include Dr Alice Bows-Larkin (Tyndall Centre); Keith Taylor MEP; Christine Taylor (Stop Heathrow Expansion); Brendon Sewill (Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign); Leo Murray (A Free Ride); Greenpeace; Asad Rehman (Friends of the Earth); Dr Doug Parr, Greenpeace.
