Waltham Forest & Redbridge Green Party are to hold a stall in Walthamstow Square to highlight the dangers to the NHS and to help protect local hospital Whipps Cross. The stall will be this Saturday 12th September between 11am - 1pm and Greens will be asking people to sign postcards to take to Barts Health Trust AGM the following week.
Of particular concern is the plans to sell land at Whipps Cross without public consultation that could lead to a downgrading of Whipps Cross. The proposed sale is to pay off debts that are a result of a disastrous PFI scheme that pays millions of pounds of taxpayers' money to private corporations rather than to fund the heath service.
The Green Party believes in a well funded, publically owned NHS and are against the privatisation that leads to a reduction in services as private companies see increased profits.
The Greens also believe in a more holistic health service with more focus on preventative measures to keep people healthy. For example, the current obesity epidemic due to the promotion of junk food by unscrupulous companies only adds to the burden on the NHS – action needs to be taken before people become obese so they can live healthier, happier lives.
At 1pm we will go straight to central London and meet up with the Refugees Welcome March organised by a massive coalition of organisations.
