Greens join protest against the Badger Cull

9 September 2015

Mark Dawes of Waltham Forest & Redbridge Green Party joined the protest against the badger cull outside Parliament on September 8th. The protest was organised by Brian May – guitarist of Queen – who also gave a strong speech highlighting the callousness, ignorance and lack of compassion of the current Government’s attitude towards wildlife and animals. Green MP Caroline Lucas also spoke strongly against the badger cull.

Not only is the badger cull very cruel to the animals who suffer painful deaths but scientifically it is ineffective and will do nothing to stop TB in cattle which is the alleged reason for the killing. It is also very expensive – thousands of pounds for every badger killed. If that money was put towards vaccinations, a solution would be found far quicker.

“This Government’s policies towards wildlife is absolutely ignorant, showing no understanding of ecology and is sadistic and callous” said Mark Dawes of Waltham Forest & Redbridge Green Party. “They think the solution to every problem is to kill and cull animals which is not only very cruel but completely ineffective” he added.
