The Green Party has chosen lifelong Redbridge resident Barry Cooper as its candidate for Roding ward in the council by-election which takes place on May 5th.
Originally from Tottenham, Barry has lived in Hainault since the 1970s, pursuing a career in the travel industry. Fluent in 3 European languages, Barry has also worked in the EU, notably in the Netherlands. He is an active and committed member of the Green Party, also a nominee to the 2016 Greater London Assembly List.
“I am delighted to have been selected as the Green Party candidate for Roding Ward,” he said. “At the local level, Roding has been affected by all of the serious issues that face Greater London today.
"We’ve reached crisis point, most notably on housing but also on transport and air pollution.”
With air pollution at Charlie Brown’s Roundabout now four times worse than in Oxford Street, Barry says: “It is time for drastic measures to be put in place to protect Roding residents, who have had to put up with this intolerable situation for many years. But whatever other candidates might claim, there are no quick and easy fixes to these problems.”
Barry concluded: “If elected, I promise to work tirelessly within Redbridge council towards securing imaginative and affordable solutions to the many challenges facing our borough today.”
