On 11th December 2018, The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, declared a climate emergency in response to a motion by the London Assembly submitted by Green Assembly Member Caroline Russell.
Then on 23rd January 2019, Lambeth Green Party councillors proposed a motion to declare a climate emergency, which passed, bringing the borough’s carbon neutrality target forward to 2030.
Other London councils are now debating similar motions, which is why Waltham Forest & Redbridge Green Party are backing one local petition and starting another, calling on the Leaders of Waltham Forest and Redbridge Councils to follow suit and declare a climate emergency.
